Mother’s Day has taken on a different meaning for me over the years.
When my daughters were younger, life felt physically demanding in a very real way. There were years of rushing — school mornings, tuition schedules, ballet classes, tennis practice, taekwondo lessons. Days were structured around movement and logistics, and much of my energy was spent keeping everything going.
Those years were full, but they were also tiring. Not in a way that diminishes them — simply in the way that raising children asks so much of you, often before you realise how much you’re giving.
Now, with two grown daughters, that pace has softened.

A Shift in Time
The physical tiredness has passed, replaced by something quieter. Time feels less urgent. There’s space to pause, to notice, to enjoy moments as they unfold rather than rushing through them.
I find joy now in different ways — shopping together, lingering over nail appointments, sharing laughter, talking without watching the clock. These moments feel lighter, but no less meaningful.
I’m deeply grateful for the chance to know my daughters not just as children, but as the people they’ve become. Two wonderful human beings, each with their own perspective, humour, and way of moving through the world.
Motherhood, I’ve learned, keeps changing shape.
The Meaning of Mother of Pearl
For this Mother’s Day, we’re introducing Gemma, a collection set with mother of pearl.
Mother of pearl has long been associated with protection, calm, and nurturing. Formed slowly inside shells, it develops layer by layer, responding to time and environment. Its strength comes from patience, not force.
That idea resonates deeply with me.
Motherhood, too, is layered. It’s shaped by years of care, adjustment, and resilience. Much of its strength is quiet and unseen, built gradually through everyday presence rather than grand gestures.
Mother of pearl is also known for its gentle luminosity — never loud, never demanding attention. It reflects rather than dominates, which feels fitting for a material that carries so much meaning.
Carrying the Same Values Forward
At Moss & Lupine, we place importance on longevity, intention, and pieces that are meant to be lived with. These values align naturally with how I think about motherhood now — steady, considered, and rooted in care.
Gemma was created with that same mindset. It’s not about marking a single day, but about honouring the ongoing nature of connection — something that continues to evolve over time.
Mother’s Day, for me, is less about celebration and more about acknowledgement. Of effort given. Of time passed. Of relationships that continue to grow, even as they change.
The joy of being a mother isn’t fixed in one phase. It unfolds slowly, shaped by patience, love, and the quiet privilege of walking alongside your children as they become themselves.
