By Moss & Lupine
The Lunar New Year is often described as a time of renewal, but I’ve always thought of it more quietly — as a moment to pause, to reset intentions, and to carry a sense of optimism into the year ahead.
It’s a season shaped by symbolism. Small, meaningful gestures take precedence over grand ones. Homes are refreshed. Blossoms appear. Objects are chosen not just for how they look, but for what they represent.
This idea of beginning gently, with intention, feels closely aligned with how I think about jewellery.
Blossoming as a Symbol
Across many cultures, flowers hold a particular significance during the Lunar New Year. Blossoms are associated with growth, resilience, and good fortune — not because they arrive suddenly, but because they emerge after a period of quiet.
They remind us that change is gradual. That beauty often follows patience. That renewal doesn’t need to be loud to be meaningful.
These are ideas I return to often when thinking about Moss & Lupine.
Jewellery as Meaning, Not Occasion
Jewellery is sometimes framed around milestones or celebrations, but I’ve always been more interested in the pieces we wear into everyday life — the ones we choose because they feel right, rather than because they mark a specific moment.
At the beginning of a new year, especially one shaped by reflection and symbolism, jewellery can become a small anchor. Something chosen with care. Something that carries a sense of intention, even if it’s worn quietly.
In that way, jewellery becomes part of how we move forward, rather than something reserved for a single occasion.
The Iris and New Beginnings
The Iris collection was introduced at the beginning of the year, inspired by a flower long associated with hope, clarity, and quiet strength. It felt like a natural moment to release it — not as a statement, but as a continuation.
Iris flowers have often been linked to renewal and protection, qualities that feel especially relevant at the threshold of a new year. Their form is structured yet soft, expressive without excess. There’s a balance there that resonates deeply with the way Moss & Lupine approaches design.
Carrying Intention Forward
The Lunar New Year invites us to think about what we carry with us — not just materially, but emotionally. What we choose to keep close. What we hope to grow.
For me, symbolism isn’t about superstition or decoration. It’s about meaning layered quietly into everyday life. Jewellery, like blossoms, doesn’t need to announce itself to be powerful.
Sometimes, it’s enough for it to be chosen with care, worn often, and allowed to become part of the year as it unfolds.
